Revitalizing the economy in Benue State

Since assuming office in May 2023, Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia has pursued policies aimed at revitalizing the economy of Benue State through agriculture, infrastructure development, investment promotion, and fiscal reforms. His administration has focused on harnessing Benue’s vast agricultural potential while laying the foundation for industrial growth and sustainable economic development.

Agriculture, the backbone of Benue’s economy, has received significant attention under Governor Alia’s leadership. The administration has promoted mechanized farming, strengthened agricultural institutions, and supported farmers with improved inputs and modern farming techniques. These efforts are designed to increase food production, create jobs, and position Benue as a leading agricultural hub in Nigeria.

The government has also prioritized infrastructure development as a catalyst for economic growth. Through the construction and rehabilitation of roads and other public infrastructure, the administration is improving connectivity between rural communities and urban markets, thereby facilitating trade and boosting economic activities across the state.

Governor Alia has further pursued partnerships with federal agencies, investors, and development institutions to attract investment into agriculture, mining, and value-added industries. These initiatives are aimed at diversifying the state’s economy, increasing internally generated revenue, and creating employment opportunities for the growing population.

In addition, the administration has emphasized fiscal discipline and increased capital expenditure on development projects. Recent state budgets have allocated substantial resources to infrastructure, agriculture, human capital development, and digital innovation, reflecting a commitment to long-term economic transformation.

Overall, Governor Alia’s economic agenda seeks to transform Benue from a predominantly agrarian economy into a more diversified and competitive economy driven by agriculture, industry, infrastructure, and private-sector investment. Through these efforts, the administration aims to improve livelihoods, create sustainable jobs, and foster inclusive economic growth for the people of Benue State.
